An Undertaking of S.D.College (Lahore) Ambala Cantt

Under the VedaVyaas Restructuring Sanskrit Scheme, dept of Music, Sanskrit & SDHDR&T Centre of S D College, Ambala Cantt organized Haryana Sanskrit Academy, Panchkula sponsored one day workshop on the topic- “रस एवम् ᭟विन िस᳍ा᭠तᲂ कᳱ चलिचᮢीय संगीत पर ᮧयोगधᳶमता (सं᭭कृत सािह᭜य- शाᳫ के स᭠दभᭅ मᱶ) Application of Rasa & Dhvani Theories on Film Music (with ref to Sanskrit Saahitya-Shaastra) in which teachers and research scholars of various colleges and universities of Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Delhi participated and learnt about the application of Rasa and Dhvani on Films music. There were two main reasons to organize this workshop – 1.How to sensitize an artist / performer/ singer/ composer/ song writer to evaluate his/ her creation on the basis of Rasa and Dhvani elements and not to become conditioned, 2.How to sensitize the audience to refine their tastes and upgrade their level of appreciation for a creative expression. It is rightly said in Skt Lit that one can find qualified artists in society but it is very difficult to find a Gunagya (evaluator -appreciator of art) in real sense. Clapping or saying Wah Wah is the lowest level of appreciation as per Indian art tradition. One must learn the art of Listening, seeing and understanding an artistic expression from the Rasa and Dhvani perspective. *Prof. Pankaj Mala Sharma, Dept of Music, PU, Chd, Prof. Ramakant Aniras, Dept of Skt PU, Chd, Pt. Devender Verma, well known musician, Faridabad and Dr. Nagendra Sharma, Regional Director of Haryana Kala Parishad, as resource persons explained the history, idea, concept, theories of Rasa and Dhvani elements to participants and how Rasa and Dhavni influences our mind, behavior of a singer, song writer and music composer. So many songs were quoted and were analyzed on the basis of suggestive meanings, Sthayi-Bhaavas etc. Participants were quite thrilled to learn this applied aspect of Skt literary criticism. It was also suggested that these two concepts should be part of music syllabus. It was also proposed that a workshop on application of Rasa and Dhavani elements on Music and Theatre as part two. Dr Someshwar Dutt, director, HSA, PKl in his presidential remarks said that Sanskrit concepts, theories need to be applied in all aspects of education. He encouraged organizers and participants to make more and more interdisciplinary experiments to make Shaastriya concepts, theories useful, relevant and applied.
